An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard; I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was taken care of.

He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner of the sofa and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out.

The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot on the sofa and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks.

Curious I pinned a note to his collar: 'I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.'

The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar:

'He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 - he's trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?'

:D I think I have seen that one before. Realized it when I got to the punchline.

Enjoyed it just as much this time. Thanks, Spinner:)

Re: Old Dog

I just lost an old cat that had a similar story. My wife and I used to sleep in a loft bedroom over the kitchen at our little house in California. Well I got up one night to find a black and white cat sleeping on the sofa. There was a cat door at our house for the other cats.

That cat just kept showing up every night. Whoever got out of bed would find him sound asleep on the couch. So, we started petting him a little. Pretty soon he had sorta moved in.

One day, there was a collar on his neck, with a note attached to it. "My cat is gone at night. If you see him, send a note back." So we did, and gave our address. Next day, a neighbor from one street over dropped by and we chatted. It seemed that she had had a new baby, and it was all too much for this black and white cat. The neighbor didn't mind if it stayed with us, but wondered who would be paying the vet bills. We offered to, and the cat moved in permanently. It would return to its old home once in a while, but moved in with us.

Well, he moved to Minnesota with us and just died a week ago at the ripe old age of 19. Naturally, we sent a note to the neighbor, who knew the cat had gone with us.

She had called it Domino. We renamed it, long ago, to Butthead. Great cat.

Re: Old Dog

That one is pretty funny and I saved it. Here is one for you, albeit, a cat story....

When I was about 15, I worked at a sail plane / glider port where we used tow planes to tow the gliders aloft. The airport had a cat that kept the rats and birds down in the hangar. During the winter, you'd usually find the cat sleeping in the tow planes. Well, a new tow pilot was hired and he went out for the first flight. It was a demo, called a mile high flight, where they take a couple up to 5500' and then the glider releases. At about 3000' with the glider in tow, the pilot discovered the cat when it woke up and wanted out. The cats skitzed out and went running around the plane tearing up the pilot. His only course of action was to open the door.

So the question is, do you think it landed / kersplatted on all fours??
