Old Engine Seals and Gaskets - While the Engine is Out

Are there any seals or gaskets I should be concerned about replacing while the engine is out of the boat. Supposedly this engine has been sitting for 6-7 years. The head has been taken care of and the head gasket replaced. Is it warranted to replace seals like the rear main and such while the engine is out? I'd like to make sure this engine is in prime condition going in. I don't want to be playing engine mechanic for at least a couple more months if I can get away with it. I'm starting to believe boats are made only for working on and not having a good time on the water:) Any suggestions are appreciated!

personally since the motor is out I woudl replace all the seals and gaskets you can. its cheap insurance. I rather do it with the motor ona engine stand than inside the boat. I always tell my buddies since youre already working on whatever why dont you replace this
6-7 years is a long time for the motor it sit unused. if the seals arent rotted they are probably somewhat dried out so it s a matter of time before they leak. May not be tomorrow but it will happen

Thanks Rob! I see what you mean about doing outside the boat rather than in. Thats makes a whole lot of sense. I'll give them all a whirl then.

I think youll save yourself a lot of headaches. I made that mistake of doing a motor but noth changing end seals and a waterpump ( thought the old ones were ok) then 4 weeks later I was back at my buddys house changing a waterpump and end seal. Wasnt too hard just a PITA. So now i basically replace seals as a normal thing when I rebuild something
