Let me start off by saying I am new to boating and have yet to receive my manual for the motor in the mail. so i aplogize up front for the "new guy" questions.
Tomorrow will be my first run with the motor. It is an evinrude 50 Sizzler. Like a 1975 or so I believe.
I was informed reverse wasn't working because of the linkage. I am a motorcycle mechanic, so I am mechanically inclined and figured it's time to start learning how the boat works.
As I was moving the throttle controls to see how the linakge moved, I think I pushed the throttle too far forward. Now when I put the controls at Neutral, the linkage on the motor is in reverse. I can not move the controls back past the Neutral mark on the controls.
Do I need to split open the throttle controls to adjust it back? Is there adjustments inside the control box? If i split it open .. will things fly out at me? any tips are appreciated. or is this all controlled at the motor? is there a chance i just really stretched the cables or something?
I think once I fix that, I need to fix the reverse on the motor linkage. I was told by the owner i needed to remove the starting motor and adjust the rod that engages it.
Sorry if these are silly questions. I am new.
