Can anyone tell me the approximate year of this engine. It is on a boat that I am looking at for the hull only. They said that it has been sitting up for two years. It will turn over and has good compression but has not been cranked in at least two years. Were these good engines and is it worth anything?

Try this site, even though some of the catalogs are not in english, it's all visual, you should be able to find your cowl, and then you'll see your year.

I'm not 100% positive but I think the only years for 235HP with VRO were 1984 and 1985.

Did some quick checking on www.shopevinrude.com and found they don't offer VRO parts before 1984 and don't even list a 235hp after 1985.
