I have an old Mercury Thruster, SX28 or RX28 is the model number, I believe (S/N OC911714). Specificly, I am looking on how to wire the selector switch in the foot control. There are 4 wires, solid yellow from engine/battery positive lug, black, yellow w/ black tracer to motor, and yellow w/ red tracer to motor. the switch has 4 terminals marked L M H and B. The rotary switch has 7 positions, and i believe the lowest is off. i know without installing the switch at all the motor seems to run at full speed.

also, there is a momentary closed-contact switch I don't know what purpose it serves. (I am new to the boatign world but a good electrician)
ANY help is appriciated.

Re: Old Merc Thruster wiring

I think the manual is your best bet. My old thruster doesn't have a selector switch, only the momentaty (on/off) switch and the rotary speed control. If you think it would help, I could open mine this weekend and send pics, but I beleive we have to different motors. Mine is a 55# (?) bow mount, sn 5539551. I bought it used, so don't know much about it, other than it's a great little motor! Good luck, Mike
