Hi,

I was just given a (very?) old Seahorse 10hp motor. The motor works (based on what I was told), but I would like to check out some basic things (like the impeller) and I would like to get it running myself. I have a couple questions --- 1) where would I find the serial number? 2) any ideas where I can find manuals, etc, to help me, and 3) any idea how I can determine the year? Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Hello Jeff and welcome to iboats!

What you need to look for is the model number. With that, we can determine the year. Look on the port transom bracket (left side looking at the back of the engine) for a metal tag. It'll have the model number on it. If the tag is missing, look for a welsh plug (some call it a freeze plug) on the engine block. It will also have the model number on it.

The original OEM service manual can be gotten through the Ken Cook Co., marine.com or the outboard wizard. All have sites.

Generic service manuals can be bought through many marine dealers or just look at the bottom of the page. iboats sells them also.

Good luck with the engine. Don't hesitate to post any questions you may have.

Hi and thank you for you reply --- I have looked all over the place for numbers and have not had a great deal of luck --- I did find a (serial?) number on a little circular plate on the motor --- 2114650 --- and a stanped number on a support bracket on the motor (front, near the carb --- 306156) --- do these numbers help any?

I only see parts manuals for 10hp on ebay right now. (search terms "(10, 10hp) (evinrude, johnson) manual")

kencook.com wants the princely sum of $73 USD for that 40 page factory manual. It's the best. Iboats sells aftermarket manuals that are alright. The library might have one to lend.

This is for a '58, but it might be of some interest (popup blockers on full!):
http://1958evinrude10hp.0catch.com/Evinrude1.htm
