Does anyone know of a good place to order parts for older Evinrude motors? I am looking to get a lower end repair / seal kit and cannot find a site with those available...Maybe I am looking in the wrong places, but iBoats.com seems to not have any, and other locations I have looked didn't serve older engines!!! Help please...I know I can beat the prices of the local dealer by buying online...it is a 1966 40 HP Model 40673 S/N E01213...thanks to whomever can help!!!

Iboats and NAPA autoparts (Stateside) sells the kit for your engine. PN 18-2686 for the manual shift lower unit seal kit, which comes with a new spagetti, o-ring for the pivot screw, o-ring for the seal carrier, shift shaft seal, drive shaft seal, prop shaft seal, fill and drain vent screw seals, etc.
You can also get it from your local johnny/rude dealer.

Check out the top left corner of this page, and click on where it says "Boat Repair: Parts,...", then click on the parts finder.

Spratt, sometimes in life it is good to support your local dealer, just to keep him in business. This could be one of them times. We have a local hardware store. It's known for quality, and also having the answers. They are also top priced.
While I don't/can't deal with them always,I do go in a few times a year to help keep them open.My dealings with them is small, but it adds up.

I am a local dealer, and can tell you Johnson/Evinrude never made a seal kit for your motor. But if you stop by,I'll pull out the partbook,go thru it with you, sell you the parts I have in stock, order the rest, and not charge you shipping.

But maybe someone knows a site.....

DHP

There are also times, Spratt, when it is a good idea to support the company that supplies you the best boating help forum on the planet. . . at no cost to you.

I can't believe that someone would walk into DHP's store and try to send someone to a competitor. . . well, maybe, but I doubt that he would be welcome there for long.

The electro-shift kit is 18-2687. I've found a few times Iboats carries a Sierra (1:cool: product that it doesn't have in it's parts-finder. Just search them for the pn in that case.
You don't say where you are spratt, but down in the 'States NAPA auto parts stores carry the Sierra aftermarket marine line of parts. Ask for their marine catalog. Some NAPAs don't know that they carry it, so naturally support is minimal.
To aid your local Johnny/Rude dealer, here's the pn for the kit components: 313284, 311598 (x 2 Fill and Vent washers), 307853, 322598, 307082, 321459, 322501, 313283, 307103.
Customer service drives my choice of which businesses I patronize. Back when I worked in a small independant shop, that ment earning my customers.

The 18-2687 seal kit should be available from almost any dealer in the world.(even a Johnrude dealer) We all have independant distributors that carry the Sierra brand aftermarket parts.

To use/not use your local dealer has always been a "sticky" subject. One that can & will be debated forever. Everyone here has made good points. Bottom line is this: If you have an established relationship with your local dealer, then I would suggest you use him. If not, you need to establish a relationship with someone, whomever you feel comfortable with, keeping in mind there are always compromises. A local guy that you do business with is more likely to be able to help when you need it most. To most people, that is worth a few dollars more.

Re: Older (1966) Evinrude parts...where???

Guys, using the local dealer is not a problem for me. I LOVE to walk around in parts stores, and usually spend more than I normally would have anyway. But on the other hand, I don't make much money, and penny pinching is a skill for me. To support my boat habit at all, I MUST save as much as possible. I did buy my new ignition switch from the local dealer, and got phone support several times while installing it. That was definitely worth some bucks. However, I could have bought that same switch online for HALF what I paid them. I appreciate all the advice and help I get from iBoats folks, and will continue using the advice I get here for al long as I own this and any subsequent boats.

As for my location, I am in Washington State, across the Puget Sound from Seattle in Port Orchard, a small old historic town. A there is a great Johnson?Evinrude Dealer at Kitsap Marina.
