older 35 johnson rewind jammed

I cant get the rope untangled and there is alot of tension on it. Do I take that whole top bracket of and let it uncoil. Any ideas?

Hi THM<br />As you didn't give the model# or year. They are all basicly the same on the 35's. Yes remove the starter assembly, should be 3-4 screws. It is a good idea to wear gloves and safty glasses when working on these things. It's even a better idea to have a manual, this will save a lot of head aches.
