I have a 74 or 76 fishing boat 2 seater with a 70 hp Evinrude on the back.
16 footer .
We have been using it off and on for several years for fishing.
Never failed us till now.
I always pre start my engine prior to heading for the lake. Yesterday it started and then dies right away.
After several attempts it did nothing.
3/4 tank of gas on board.
I found a fuse bad on the engine. replaced it . Now Engine turns over strong but does not fire. I removed the fuel filter ( pump) all is good no crud or dirt.
Took remote control apart to see if wireing was bad. I did not find any problems there either.reassembled.
This am motor spins strong still not starting. I do have spark from plug wire to block when spinning engine over.

Engine did not even try to fire when I sprayed a little WD 40 into carb intake while cranking over. Nothing.
I am at a loss as to where to turn next.
Anyone have an idea what step to take next?

thanks
Gordon

check spark at spark plugs ,they could be fouled, squirt some premixed fuel in carbs an give it a try,if it has spark ,fuel, compression, should be running.

Go to the top of this forum and click on Top Secret File. In there is a list of things to check for a motor that isn't starting. Give it a try and then don't be afraid to seek direction from the members. Best of luck. Rick.

Re: Older Evinrude wont start

I did all that I was able to do on the Top Secrets. All was in good shape and still nada.
I have come to the point that I think it is a fuel problem. The fuel lines are old and may be coming a part inside and causing a shut down preventing fuel from making it to the carbs.
It ran fine two weeks ago.
Thanks for the ideas and help.
