Re: OMC 2.3 Locked Up

Kinda makes you wish OMC marked the FILL and DRAIN holes on the drive and listed the capacity 64 FL oz!!
This has happened many times I am sure, but my experience has been that if you read the manual...
...no problems!!
As I had said, my Mercrusier owning neighbor was telling me I was doing the wrong way when I filled from the middle hole, but I showed him the OMC manual...and no problems!
This is not limited to boats though. Anyone work on the new design Ford Explorers, they have no dipstick for the auto trans, and you have to follow some oddball procedure to fill the trans after service. I can hear it now, I changed the trans oil in the Explorer, and it shifts funny now......

Lou,

Especially the 64 oz capacity. Even if they had labeled the 'Fill' and 'Drain' holes, unless they also labeled the Dipstick/ air hole on top I could see people trying to fill from the correct hole without taking off the dipstick. How much oil could you force in there without an air outlet?

Wonder what the total damages ($) that resulted from people incorrectly filling Cobra outdrives amounts to? Bet it's huge. (keep in mind that none of this is meant to dog you jas. as you've read there's more than a few boat repair shops that have made this same mistake)

No. I understand. I made a mistake and now have to pay for it. I have been calling the TC Electronics and Marine but get no answer. A machine comes on and says the message is from the 17th of Feb. Out of business? Different number? Yeah, it would be handy to have the fill and drain marked. Lesson learned.

I talked to them not much before the 17th. Wonder if they took a vacation week or something. Bet things are a bit slower in Feb in Toronto than the rest of the year. Might be worth doing an iboats search on TC Electronics to see if you can dig up feedback from other boaters.
