I believe it's an 1982. Model 252FTHRCNG. I have 3 questions:
1- What is fixed trim as opposed to select trim?
2- What is True-Course steering?
3- and also is it 120 hp?
Any help would be appreciated by this newbie, I have been looking for a specific service manual for this model but could not find any.
Thankyou

Re: omc 2.5 : 2 questions

fixed trim means u cant move the drive up or down when running.only one i know of is the pre 1986 stringer omc i/o.there may be some outboards out there old ones.selctrim is a motorized front mount that moves the whole front of the motor up and down the outdrive moves also but the outdrive still must be in the down position anytime u start the motor.120 hp is a 2.5l. tru course steering is gear driven steering.when the wheel is turned in a modern boat a cable is pulled or pushed thru a plastik housing.tru course the cable is turned or rotated in the plastik housing has special ends to connect to the intermediate housing inside the boat in turn there is a gear on the outside that engages another gear on the outdrive.hope this helps.

Re: omc 2.5 : 2 questions

Thankyou Chiefalen for your enlightening answers. I just bought this engine on a 19 ft Renken 1982. I dont know much about the history of this outdrive except that the previous owner told me he had replaced the manifold a few years back. The engine starts right up but runs kinda rough, the guy said he had put some cleaning agent with the one gallon gas that's in the tank.I know I need to tune it up(carb rebuild, points, impeller...) but before I do that I need to fix the trim. All I can hear when I try to tilt or trim is a click. I have learned from these forums that it could be due to a number of reasons A marine mechanic friend told me that it's most probably the relay. But without a diagram or the manual yet I dont know where the relay is or what it looks like. So for now I am just learning as much as possible about this outdrive until I get a shop manual.
Thns again Chiefalen for your input.
