OMC 3.0L - Flywheel Loose! Now what to check?

I bought a 91 ChrisCraft 17' Bowrider with 3.0L OMC Cobra sterndrive as my first boat last summer. I've taken it out about 3-4 times.

It has always been very rough at idle, but last time I took it out it was much worse and sounded like a diesel engine with no oil.

I pulled the motor a couple days ago and found that the coupler and flywheel were very loose and had scraped up the flywheel some. I pulled the oil pan and I'm going to check the main bearings with Plastigage.

Is there any other damage that I should check before I reassemble?

BTW, the previous owner said gimbal bearing was the last thing he changed before I bought it from him. Is this related to the the flywheel being loose?

I checked the number 4 main bearing and it was well with in specs. There was no metal flakes in the oil, so I'm going to put it back in the boat and call it good.

I found that the flywheel studs were in backwards, so I turned them around and put plenty of blue Locktite on them.

flywheel only only goes on one way. make sure the oil screen is nice and clean. look for melted rubber comming out of the coupler. check the gimbal again to make sure its not seizing up in any spots

I got it back together already. No melted rubber on the coupler it looked like lots of surface cracks in it, but I don't think it was bad. Unfortunately I didn't check the gimble. I just coated the splines with a some more grease when I put it back together.

The oil screen was clean with nothing on it.

Re: OMC 3.0L - Flywheel Loose! Now what to check?

Now I'm having a different problem and I can't figure out what caused it.

The first (from the front) rocker arm keeps falling off the valve and it makes a lot of noise. The push rod is a little bent and well need to be replaced. I think the valve stem is bent or something. It doesn't seem to be frozen up. I'm able to tap the valve with a hammer and it does move.

Anyone know what caused this and what the problem is?

Anyone have any ideas why this would happen?
