omc 400 stringer uper unit seal removal

As my waterpump job grows bigger I am trying to remove the 'back to back' seals just above the water pump. I did get the outer seal off using more violence than I like.
Please tell me the correct way to remove these seals because I have more to do in the future.

I used a Dremel tool with a small cut off wheel to put a slot in the seal then used a screwdriver in that slot to pry the seal out.
Then to make a seal installing tool I put a piece of scrap 4x4 in the lathe and turned it down to the outer diameter of the seal. I cut it to the length I wanted (about 2 inches) and used a Forstner bit to drill out the center to match the inner diameter of the seal about 1 1/2 inches deep. Then carefully put the new seals in with the tool and a rubber mallet.
All seemed to go well.
