I have a 1980 Century 190 with an OMC 140 & 400 Stringer. The tilt works great every time in the driveway and when we launch at the lake, but after running the boat for the day the sterndrive never comes back up. The past 2 times out it'd blow the top 50 amp fuse & then work again after I replaced the fuse. This time out it didn't blow the fuse, but refused to lift. We removed the moon gear & lifted it manually in the parking lot to get it home. After I got home I tried it again & it dropped & lifted perfectly!
Does anyone have any ideas why this keeps happening? I've pulled the clutch housing apart a few times as the clutch mechanism kept slipping. I finally just drove a pin through the clutch plates to lock them together & packed the entire housing with marine grease. Everything is well lubed & as I said, it works great in the driveway & after first launch.
