Hello Winter Projects, HA!

Alright, so after getting some great advice from Don S. on the electronic ignition (Delco Voyager), I am good to go with it.

However, I was told by the previous owner that one carb probably needs to be replaced or re-built due to some stumbling at idle on the port side motor- I only felt it a few times when I had the boat out, and I did clean the fuel system completely. The carb's smell weird though when I smell through the butterflies not like gas by any means!!

So either A I can rebuild the both carb's with new kits and everything (I have never done this before, but I am extremely mechanically inclined) or I can buy new Carb's whether they be Rochester, Edelbrock, or holleys. I would almost enjoy re-building the carb's but I would like to add Electronic Choke onto them if possible to make starting easier. I am sure the electronic ignition is going to help with that as well.

So my questions are what do I need in order to do the re-build completely, do I just need a re-build kit or do I need floats and bushing (Do they come with a rebuild kit) and how difficult is it. If I were to take pics could iBoats guide me? and how do I add electronic choke

Or if I should just buy new ones which ones/models would match my engine and intake and how do I add electronic choke. Also, FYI I have a OMC Chevy 5.0. Engine model number is 504APARY.

Thanks guys!!

Ayuh,.... A carb cleaning tank, 'n compressed air are needed at a minimum...

The parts in the kit are the basics, gaskets, needle seats etc...

If you find other Bad parts during the tear down, 'n clean up, you'll need to order 'em separately..

If you've got a good workin' choke/ choke stove,...
Goin' to electric won't change a thing...
I'd suggest fixin'/ tunin' the choke you've got...

Thanks Bond-o! I'll have to look into re-building them then.

If I was to just purchase new carb's what would be the best type to buy/models? Also, how would I go about tuning the choke on these carb's? It seems I have to move the idle lever forward to where they are starting up they are near 2,500 RPMs and then they want to stall when I bring it down to idle cause I don't necessarily like running a cold motor at that much of an idle.
