Just purchased a 71 stamas 24ft with 350 I/O I was told its an OMC 800 outdrive, with electric shift, haven't looked to compare model numbers or anything yet. I have perfect forward with no issues and an intermittent reverse. Test like illuminates on the wire going into the lower drive, but wire has been repaired with what looks to be speaker wire and some shady butt end connectors. I was wondering if there were any common problems with an intermittent revers on these units, I have not had a chance to take any resistance readings or voltage drop across the reverse wire yet. Is it possible the reverse coil has gone out? I have a spare outdrive that is disassembled, with a service manual, doesn't look to incredibly difficult to replace, has anyone done this beofer? Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you Chris.
