omc cobra 1993 ford 5.0 upper case water plug

I am learning as I go about a recently purchased 1993 Four Winns with Ford 5.0/ OMC Cobra. I was attempting to check outdrive oil and pulled the port side plug on the upper case, it is for the water tube for cooling. Trouble is when I pulled it out I could see the nut floating inside the case and can't replace the plug. Any Ideas?

pull the outdrive and fix it.

I've pulled the outdrive off of mercruisers, this looks the same... anything I should be aware of on the OMC Cobra?

Nope. Check the bellows and grease the joints and splines. Be sure to use a new gasket .

When pulling the drive the gearshift should be in neutral.

pull the outdrive and fix it.
