I bought my first boat, Mariah Z1900 with a Omc Cobra 4.3 lit.I/O last fall.I waited till this spring to do all the servicing. The motor has a OMC remote Oil filter.I bought a Clymer manual for it.The filter that was on it was a Quicksilver 35-802885Q.The manual calls for a PF-51(AC).These 2 filters are not the same.Does anyone no what a general replacement for this motor is that fits.I can't get a OMC filter in my location.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: OMC Cobra 4.3 lit. Oil Filter

The main difference between a marine oil filter and an automotive application is the flow factor. A marine engine typically runs at higher rpm for longer periods of time vs. intermittent stop and go driving that a vehicle will do. So the marine filter accordingly is designed to allow a more quantative flow of oil rather than the extra filtration that an automotive filter must provide. Since your on water it's given that the likelyhood of going "off road" or piloting into any "dirty" or "dusty" area is unlikely, the filtration in a marine filter is accordingly different to allow more oil flow to promote better cooling during periods of high rpm use. However the automotive filter equivilent will work, I would advise utilizing a Fram High flow filter rather that the factory recommended AC delco, although it is a decent filter in and of itself, it is the hihger flow you need. When you have the opportunity you might consider purchasing a few of the Quicksilver filters since "running OEM parts and products ensures proper function".

Re: OMC Cobra 4.3 lit. Oil Filter

I should clarify my original post. The treads on the AC pf51 and the seal, that Clymer manual calls for do not fit the remote oil filter unit ,which has omc stamped on it.
The quicksilver threads up but really does not match the seal surface well.I think the Quicksilver filter was just what who ever changed the oil last had.So my question I guess is I don't really know what is supposed to be on it.Is the PH8 a sub. for what is supposed to be on it.Forgive me for being dumb about a simple thing but I am at a loss to it.

Just a guess here, but "most" of the remote filter mounts that I'm framiliar with call for a Fram PH8A, or it's equivilant, which has a 3/4"-16 (Ford?, YES!, Ford) pipe thread...
