I may or may not have screwed up the threads on some of the studs on my transom plate/gimble ring studs. If i can not salvage the studs and have to replace the ring , can I use a transom setup from a 4 cyl or should i only use a unit from a v8 ?

Are you talking about the swivel bracket that your drive mounts to? (6 studs) if so it should be the same as long as its not a king cobra. In that case i dont know.

Not talking about the pivot , talking about the through transom bolts from the gimble assembly that the transom plate bolts to inside the boat. There are six Aluminum studs that the transom plate is bolted to that holds the gimble assembly to.

Internet scuttle butt says that years 1986-1989 are the same but I'm still not clear as to if there is a difference between the gimbals of a 4 cyl a 6 cyl and an 8 cyl drive . Seems like it would have been cheapest to just use one model for all power trains but you would not need something as heavy for a 4 cyl power plant as you would for a v8. I dunno , guess I'll go by the Y pipe design to match one up if I have to break down and buy another one. I know where 4 are now but the easiest to get to is for a 4 cyl. .

I am pretty sure the “Y” pipe bolt pattern will be the same for a 4 cylinder ,V 6 or V 8.

go onto
www.crowleymarine.com
go into the OMC parts catalog and compare the parts #s, if the #s are the same then the parts should be the same.
BRP (Bombardier) also maintains a Cobra parts catalog on their site.
