'82 3.8L Chevy. In troubleshooting a intermittent stalling issue, ESA looks like it's not functioning. When cold, it makes no difference when playing with the interrupt switch.

Has anyone ever had these act up when hot so the engine won't idle in gear?

Has anyone ever bypassed an ESA for testing purposes?? If so, how?

Re: OMC ESA question

Unplug the two connectors going to the ESA & then it's completely bypassed.

Re: OMC ESA question

that's what I did, and set my idle around 600rpm. Changes gears nice and smooth, and NO STALLING!!!!!!!!!

Re: OMC ESA question

Me too. The lumpy idle would shake me out of gear quite nicely.
But then after I installed Pertronix, my idle became so smooth that I couldn't get it out of gear (even at 550).. be careful.. hitting parked boats/people/docks not good
