Okay first off thanks all for the previous info about my battery melting.
My boat is a 20ft kayot with a 305 v8 5L omc I/O.

I just pulled all the plugs. They were dirty (possibly from the fogging oil used to winterize?) but they were not rusted or wet. I ran the starter with the plugs out and nothing came shooting out which seemed like a good sign.

I put in new plugs, hooked the muffs up, cleaned out the carb, played with the throttle but i got it fired up after sitting for at least two years in the elements. After it running for about 10-20 seconds water started to pour from the engine. I have a photo of the area where it is leaking. It is right inside of the motor mount. lodged by where the leak appears to be coming from is a metal cap.

Does anyone have a clue what is leaking from the information provided?
Any help is appreciated.

Freeze plug is whats in your hand, water must have been left in engine and it froze.Which hopefully only blew out the freeze plug and not cracked block,or heads.Use red thread sealer<loc-tite> and pop it back in.Then check for more leaks, maybe you got lucky....Best of luck to ya

It's tricky to get those in right, you have to tap them in straight, get it a little off and it will just (tiddely wink) on ya, that little tell tale tab is a special glue that will melt at a precise temp and void warranty if overheated, typical of a reconditioned short block.
It would probably be best to get a new brass core plug, not sure if you can use them over once they've been seated before, if it taps in tight you would probably be ok... BUT if it was to pop out on the water you better have a really good bilge pump! or it will sink your boat.

Understand that CORE PLUGS are frequently ( and mistakenly) CALLED "freeze" plugs (They do NOT however, protect against freeze damage)

If CORE plugs have popped out you may indeed be very lucky and not have a cracked block.......very frequently however, popped out core plugs are just evidence of real freeze damage which can be a cracked block internally, externally or both......

I ran the starter with the plugs out and nothing came shooting out which seemed like a good sign.
I'll also add that cracked blocks almost NEVER result in water in combustion chambers. It's the water jacket that cracks. The engine usually runs as before.....

I am not saying you absolutely have a cracked block. Just be on the lookout for external water leaks (also inspect your power steering oil cooler for leaks) and watch for water in the oil. (or the oil level over-full or increasing while running)

Good luck,

Rick
