1987 460 OMC Ford King Cobra - Problem: The motor does not crank over. There seems to be no power to the key switch. The switch seems to check out fine. While tightening the belts I inadvertently touched one of the terminals on the noise suppression box (see photo). will try to post. On the box there are 3 terminals; 1 Red wire goes from the terminal on the suppression box that?s marked alternator to the positive side of the alternator, 1 Orange wire goes to the terminal on the suppression box marked battery to the assist solenoid, 1 Black wire is grounded to the block.

In the schematic, the orange wire goes from the positive side of the alternator to the assist solenoid and it shows a fuse. I have been unable to actually locate that fuse. Could it be covered up in the harness? Or, if I blew out the diodes in the alternator, by grounding out the terminal; would that cause the problem with the power to the key switch? The gauges are inoperable as well. Any input that could help me solve this problem will be

Should be 2 fuses in holders starboard side. You can get them at radio shack.

Throttle is in neutral wiggle the handle?

Kill switch is in?

If you find the fuses and thy are good than heres a post bye the master Don S.

But im betting the fuses.

Those 2 50 amp fuses are in black rubber boots that look like just plug ins..
I bet one of those is the problem.
Napa and Autozone usually have them...

Re: OMC motor will not crank over

Well,

I used to have a Champ.....no 460 ever ran like a Champ!!

You might want to keep a few spare fuses around. They're almost not big enough if you
have ANY additional accessories.

You should get an OMC manual. You need OMC # 507605

Cheers,

Rick
