I'm looking at a boat that has twin OMC Seadrives 230 HP (outboards) on it. I am not familiar with this Outboard can anyone tell me what their reputation is any known problems or anything I should look out for. Thanks

Re: OMC Outboard

Hi, bseb.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Never heard of an OMC 230 OUTBOARD.

Sounds to me like you must mean inboard/OUTDRIVE (I/O)engines.

OMC (Outboard Marine Corp) only used the OMC brand name on I/O installations as far as I know. All of their outboard engines were named Johnson, Evinrude, Gale, Buccaneer or a store brand.

Based on that, I will move this to the I/O forum.

Good luck. :)

True, Sea Drive questions will probably get more attention in the outboard section but what's the model numbers? Are they loopers or crossflows?

Re: OMC Outboard

SeaDrives did not advertise horsepower, only engine size.

Are these 2.6, 2.7, or 3.0 liter displacement V6 engines? What year and model number?

Re: OMC Outboard

I can't help you with the 230s but I have a pair of 1987 1.6L V4 SeaDrives at 110 hp. I have had the rig for 12 years and have had no problem with the SeaDrive units. I have had both power heads rebuilt for unrelated reasons. The power heads are pretty much the same as the non SeaDrive units for my motors.

If you do your own work you will want to get the OMC shop & parts manuals.
