1993 4.3 OMC / Cobra

Pulled the drive to replace drive shaft seal and the o-ring around the bearing carrier that was faulty. Manual calls for OMC Gasket Sealing Compound (which I cant find) for both the o-ring flanges on the bearing housing and the outdrive gasket. Does anyone know what a suitable replacement for this is? Thanks...

Re: OMC Sealing Compound replacement

In the auto industry it is known as Perfect Seal #4 and is also available thru Mercury-Mercruiser dealers.

OMC Gasket Sealer is available also thru any Johnson Evinrude dealer and is now called Bombardier Gasket Sealer.

Re: OMC Sealing Compound replacement

seahorse- I did alot of searching for Perfect Seal #4 this past summer (both online and at auto atores) with no luck. I wonder if they still make it or perhaps have renamed it?

Irlima- if youi have easier access to an auto parts store than a boating store, I've read that Loc-Tite or Permatex Aviation Gasket Sealant is a suitable replacement for the Marine specified products.

As a matter of fact, a couple of online boating stores list Aviation Gasket Sealant as the replacement for the OMC Perfect Seal part number. I've used it and it seems to fit the bill. Comes in a short plastic bottle with brush. Viscous, non-hardening brown liquid that also works for sealing bolts, etc.

You may want to call the parts stores first, cause they don't all carry it.
