Is it common for the cable to stretch out of adjustment or am I missing something? My buddy brought his boat to me and its about an inch from going into either forward or reverse. I cant adjust anymore to get it to engage.

I have heard of the cables stretching with regards to the Cobras but that usually happens when the shifter bell crank in the pivot housing is jammed up with deposits or the ESA isn’t functioning and the owner has to force it into gear or into N. Mine has had the same cable over 20 years & shifts as it should. I do keep the drive down as much as I can though that helps the cable jacket to not crack. That’s what lets in water and corrodes the inner core of the cable.

Sounds like shift connecter is missing a bolt.------See if shift rod moves when lever on motor is operated.----Should be simple enough to check out.
