I would like some help troubleshooting our starting problem. Unfortunately the plug hole got plugged up this winter with leaves and the rain water never drained.
Thus, we were the unlucky recipients of a trailer sinking. water accumulated just above the starter.
I replaced the starter knowing that it was toast. Crossing my fingers I tried to start it and nothing......no clicks or anything. In trouble shooting, the new starter itself works because when I jump the posts on the starter it fires up but won't continue to run. I put the tester on the key switch and there must be short as the wire that should only be hot when turning the key to start - has power to it. There is no power to the starter when turning key to start.
I can't find my service manual and am trying to download one online..... I am assuming that there is a short in the starter relay and this needs to be replaced. Is there something that I am missing here, and should I look into anything else further before replacing this part?
Thanks in advance for any help! -Nick
