OMC stern drive 3.0l, won't start

we recently purchased a sunbird 195 with a 3.0l, 4 cyl, OMC stern drive. The boat is a 1986, the problem is it won't start, we replaced battery today and still nothing, everything else, blower, bilge, trim, outdrive up and down works.<br />We need help!!<br />any IDEAS are greatly appriciated

Does it turn over?<br /><br />Do you have spark? (Check points and condensor, spark plugs, cap, wires) <br /><br />Is it getting fuel? Can you see/smell gas in the carb.<br /><br />Does the auto choke work?<br /><br />Did you put it into fast idle position? Pull the handle out towards you and move forward. (It gets more gas and stays in neutral.)<br /><br />You really should get yourself a manual and go through the trouble shooting section. I bought my used manual on ebay.

Doesn't turn over at all. Solenoid clicks . Did not check spark. Tried to remove starter but can't get to the bottom bolt. Is there any way to check the starter while it is still installed? Thanks

I would try a different battery before yanking out the starter. It could be too low to turn over the motor. Try any car battery.

Clean those battery wires really good and make sure all the " ground" wires are hooked to the battery and are not corroded.
