Drove over to my recently purchased and recently broke boat today. I brought the batteries fresh charged from home. One read 8.0VDC so I charged it to 12.4VDC when I got the boat it was at 9.4VDC. Must have a bad cell? Anyways, I hooked the one up and gave it a crank with my fingers crossed. After it overheated on my first outing and wouldnt turnover I was really spooked. I turned the primer on for a couple minutes and hit the ignition. It turned over! I was so happy, I thought it was gonna be seized or who knows. Before it fired though we heard an electric pop somewhere in the starboard transom area. Gotta be some kind of short or something. Any thoughts or ideas? Regardless of what it was I am going to go through the whole rig and put new wires to everything. It looks like a bowl of spaghetti under the dash AND near the batteries.
Also, my shop manual hasn't arrived so I havent took apart the LU to check out the impeller. However I did check my hoses and the one from the water pump to the TStat was the type with a spring inside you can make into any shape you want... well that spring is totally falling apart. Maybe a piece is lodged somewhere and preventing water? If something is lodged somewhere in the cooling passage how do you unclog it? Liquid plummer? lol
