OMC to Merc controls

I'm looking at a 1971 Merc 65hp. It does not come with the controls. I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried to make omc controls work with a Merc?? Or is this something that just can't really be done. I was just looking for someone to throw me some ideas. Or where to get some cheap controls. Thanks Guys!

You could use OMC controlls, you would just need to find some brass barrels. Do you have the wireing harness though?

Wont work as Merc boxs throttle is a "push" to WOT and a OMC is a "pull" to WOT..

Older OMC controllers can push, let the cables out the front on the "universal
"
dual lever controller, and it should push the cable, not pull.
I have one, I'll double check at the cottage next time I am out.
