OMC VRO No-Oil Warning

I have a 1991 Evenrude 90 HP. I disconnected the VRO about a year ago and have been mixing. Recently I started getting what seems to be a no-oil warning horn (quick beep beep beep) after about 5 minutes of running at near top speed. I back off it and almost immediately the beeps get a litle longer and at a slightly slower intervals. Then they stop. But...after about 20 minutes of this same routine (5 mins at power, then beep beep beep) it starts to get worse. The warning horn starts to come more frequesntly, and last longer to where eventualy I have to completely stop and shut the motor off to stop the horn. I can restart it immediately, with no alarm, but it dosnt last long till the horn atarts up again. so...<br /><br />1. Am I right in assuming this is a no-oil alarm from the VRO?<br />2. Since I disconnected the inlet hose, and what I thought was the alarm, could someone tell me exactly how to identify the correct wires to stop the blasted horn, but ensurung I dont disconnect the high temp alarm?<br /><br />Thanks!

Before jumping to conclusions that the alarm system is faulty at the engine, do this.<br /><br />When this alarm takes place, remove the TAN wire from the horn itself. If the alarm sound continues, the horn is faulty. If this is the case, replace the horn.<br /><br />If the alarm sound ceases when the TAN wire is removed, then your assumtion is correct that something at the engine end is improper.<br /><br />If you did not unplug the VRO wiring, do so. I assume you did disconnect and plug the oil line.<br /><br />If you disconnected the VRO wiring, and if the oil line is plugged, the only warning system you would have left at the engine would be the overheat sensors which are the TAN wires protruding from each cylinder head.

Welcome to the forum!<br /><br />Did you disconect the vro from multi pronged plug. And plug of oil line at engine.<br /><br />If you still VRO pluged in it will still send signal to horn.<br /><br />If its disconected completly, Then what your getting is overheat warning.<br /><br /> Even if you see water comeing from teltale you may still have blockage inside cooling passages. Or perhaps a T.stat stuck closed. But they seldom stick closed.<br /><br />Overheat warning is suposed to be continious sound but intermiten could be faulty temp sensor.<br /><br />If you have no VRO hooked up, Then overheat is all you have left.<br /><br />Good Luck!

Unbelieveable. From what you just said, I think I may have disconnected one of the overheat sensors instead of the VRO wiring back when I disconnected the VRO oil line. Where would I locate the VRO wiring and how many wires is it? <br /><br />Sure hope I havent been overheating for the last year. :eek:

Goodoleboy.... Multiple replies are better than a single one. No apology needed. I've been guilty of the same thing many times.<br /><br />Atticus.... Locate the wiring leading from the VRO on its smaller end (the oil line end). Follow that group of wires to a small round electrical plug (that's it) and disconnect it.
