One more question

Same boat ebbtide with the 4.3 liter mercruiser alpha one engine.

We seem to be going thru a lot of gear lube oil. I have filled the reservoir several times now and it just keeps going dry. I have not seen any leaks anywhere. How much does this thing hold or is there something else I should be looking for as a cause for this much usage.

Time to pull the outdrive and check the bellows for gear lube, then drain the drive and pressure check it to find the leak.

We just bought this outdrive and installed it. it is a used one that we got on ebay.

Thanks guys, I checked it out and it is leaking right where we bolted the outdrive on so I guess new seals are in order.

Did you put a new gasket between the drive and the bellhousing? Did you replace the quad ring near the bellows, new oring around the water connection. Was the surfaces clean and smooth? Both surfaces. Were the damaged around the oil reservoir ports?
