Don't know if this is correct form but will try.

I want to know if I can have two batteries hook up to my motor for charging? I have a 125 force motor on a 19' bayliner trophy series. One battery is for starting and controls the second is for trolling motor and radio.

One little hint - never let your battery charge fall below 50%. Really wears them out fast.

I would say not to let it drop below about 10.5 or 11v.

Re: one or two battiers??

Are we talking about deep cycles here, or the more conventional starting batteries. Aren't deep cycle batteries designed to be run down completely before charging?

That is the key take-away, most people think discharged is 0v, but it really is much higher. My point, and I agree with bruce's response, is 50% discharge is not 6V, which is what many will believe.

deep cycle can handle a deeper discharge than starting, but that is really in the amount and time current is drawn out, starting like to dump a lot of power very quickly and then be recharged immediately (i.e. 5 seconds to start a car at 500 Amps, then re-charge) vs a deep cycle which likes to slowly release power, and then be re-charged (i.e. 10amp discharge for 1 hour then re-charge)

They are designed to go down more than a starting battery but you still don't want to discharge them past 50% Which is 12.0V.
