That is great! Last March was my last puff and I don't look back. One of the best decisions I've made for myself.
Bassy

Re: one year!!!!!

Congratulations on quitting, but take some of the money that you saved on the butts and join a gym. I quit 15 years ago and gained some weight but joined a gym and got back in shape.

It’s money well spent. Still going to the gym five days a week. When I miss going I feel like I have denied myself something. Almost as additive as smoking, but twenty pounds lighter than when I smoked two packs a day. O yes can take a big breath without going into a coughing fit.

Well if your happy about being a non-smoker, then more power to you and Congratulation's are in order. :)

Food for thought(Not to eat) :D
Pick a exercise program.
Situps, pushups, knee benders, etc etc
Start with what you can do.

A friend who I was in the Military with when we used to do 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 knee benders etc etc and then run 4 - 20 miles each day turned 60 3 years ago.

He was 5' 7" and 250 lbs and 60 years old.
Decieded to quit smoking and get back into shape.
We down loaded a old Army PT book and he started off with "One Push up" and could not even do one Sit up.. took him a week to do one sit up!

We used to do a 100 each every morning!

Six months later he was down to 190 lbs, looking good and feeling better than he had for years!

But I paid the price as his friend.. his wife put him on a diet at the same time! LOL

He "femaled doged" me to death about his wife starving him!

No more second, third, or forth helpings.. One serving of each and your done buster! :D

It worked but was not easy for him

Luck to ya!

Re: one year!!!!!

Well done fshkpr!!!
Most addictive thing known to man (or woman!)..........I know cos I'm addicted to the dreaded things.

Anyone got some really good tips on how to quit?

I've tried:

1. Patches (no use at all in my case)
2. Chewing gum
3. Nictotine lozenges
4. Inhalator (won't say what it looks like but it's a little plastic tube that you stick a nicotine capsule in and then suck: tastes like sawdust: I quit that habit real quick!)
5. Prescription medication....wow! they produced some mighty weird nightmares
6. Hypnotherapy
7. Deep relaxation tapes (never did hear the end of those: I always fell asleep after the first few minutes!)
8. Sheer will-power (yeah right, like that works  )

9. Ms Deezy's patented "nagging technique" (ear plugs solved that little problem :D )

So anyone got any hints, tips or secrets they want to share?

Re: one year!!!!!

dont worry as wise as jb seems at times i still only listen to half of what he says. Noel i gotta thank you for one you threaten to to come up here and kick my A$$ if had another cigarette.
i have joined the YMCA and have lost 11 pounds in the last 2 weeks.
As far as those wanting to quit, if i can anyone can. i did 2 packs a day, Fthe very first thing i did in the morning, the very last thing i did before bed and there was very few nights i did not get up at 230 or 3 in the morning just to have a smoke. so if i can do it anyone can.

Thanks for all support

Re: one year!!!!!

FSHKPR,

WAY TO GO!! That's a heck of an accomplishment.

I did the same in '97 - yep put on weight, too. My Doc said he'd rather I be overweight than still smoking. Since then I joined Weight Watchers on line and have shed what I gained. It's unbelievable how good I feel today!
