Only 2000rpm at wot

I have a 85hp chrysler force l. The last time i took it out last year it would only get up to 2000rpms at wot, to hood off and found a broken green wire. Fixed the wire and it fixed my problem. First time out this i have same problem 2000 rpms at wot, checked wiring, checked fuel, nothing changed any suggestion be great. Thanks

Do a compression and a spark test.
Cheap spark testers are available at A.Z. or any auto parts store.

The green wire is usually the choke wire. Why it fixed your problem initially is probably more of a coincidence unless that green wire is one of the trigger wires (green and orange combo). You can tell if the said green wire is a trigger wire because it is smaller (than the choke wire) and usually twisted paired with an orange wire. As mentioned, check for sparks first and then go from there.

Depending on the year there is a solid green wire from the trigger.
How's the compression?
