I just wanted to check with others on this site, because I know there are some Nitro owner's out there. I would like to get rid of a bad taste in my mouth from this builder / dealer. I'm not ripping on their boats or anything, I just had a bad experience and was wondering if anybody had the same or if I was a special case. Two years ago I ordered a Nitro bassboat rigged with a 125 Merc. The dealer informed me that the boat would be built and delivered in 4 weeks. After 6 weeks went by, I had a trip coming up and I needed my boat. It still wasn't ready, and after putting up a stink the manager agreed to let me use a loaner, identical to the one I purchased, until mine arrived. Now this is normally un-heard of and I tipped my hat to them. This was a brand new boat that they were rigging up just for me to use for a week or so until mine arrived. Well I ended up using this boat for nearly 3 months. I got back from my last big trip and my boat was still not in. The loaner that they had given me was beginning to show signs of heavy wear and it was not because I abused it.(unraveling carpet, logo's coming off, rubber grip steps peeling off; all cosmetic.) I was a bit disappointed both in the boat and in the dealer and ended up turning in the loaner and backing out of the deal. Ever since then I have had a beef with Nitro. Is this a special case or are their other's that are not happy with them. Like I said, I'm not trying to rip on them or anything, I'm just trying to get other people's feeling's about this brand.

Re: Opinions from Nitro Owner's

I just recently bought a 2001 Nitro NX 882 with a Merc 150hp engine. This was a repo, and the previous owner didn't take very good care of it at all, but here is what was wrong with it...

1. Inside the rod box, the carpet is coming loose, just a little bit.
2. The wire connecting the tilt/trim switch on the front had become corroded and broken.
3. The choke on the switch wasn't working (Just had to replace the ignition switch).
4. Boat pulled heavily to the right. I had to buy a trim tab for it (It didn't come with one for some reason) and also had to lower the engine a couple of notches (The previous owner might have moved the engine up themselves).
5. The 12v adapter next to the console doesn't work. (Haven't messed with this yet)

I think that's it. I think most of this could be chalked up to the previous owner not taking care of it, etc. When I got it, the previous owner left all kinds of trash in it, and didn't clean the leaves out, etc.. I think if they had taken care of it, none of these problems would have come up.

The only *REAL* complaint I have had, is I put in a call to Tracker to get the warranty transferred in my name. I had to leave a message because they were busy, and it said that they would call me back within 24hours, and it took 2 weeks. The only tracker warranty place in Houston hasn't answered their phone in 2 weeks, and when I called the dealership to deal with their guy (Who tracker referred me to) about a warranty issue, he hasn't called me back yet (And it's been 4 days). Judging from service alone, I personally wouldn't buy one brand new.

Hope this helps,
Mike Carlson

Thanks for the reply Mike. It's a shame their service is so horrible. I hope to hear more insight for more owner's. I bet that 150 pushes your Nitro pretty good! Happy Boating.

Re: Opinions from Nitro Owner's

Hi,I bought a new NX882DC in January with a 150 Optimax engine on it. Here in Northern California there are several large dealerships that handle Nitro and I was very happy with the one I selected. So far there has been nothing wrong with the boat but I suspect that the service wont be a problem. With several dealers to choose from the only thing that they can offer a customer to compete with each other is service. I wanted a Triton or a Ranger but I didn"t want to buy one from a dealer three hours drive away. I guess it all depends on where you live. The boat does 65mph with that engine and thats fast enough for me. I don't compete in tournaments and havn't found a fish yet that can swim thaat fast. Good luck with your boat.

The 150HP engine is really fast on that boat! I think the engine is supposed to redline around 5500RPMs. At about 4000RPM I'm already doing about 55mph, and honestly I haven't found a lake smooth enough, or deep enough, or clean enough yet for me to want to go any faster to test it out. I guess I'm a bit of a wuss, but better safe than sorry. :)

-Mike

Mike...There is no trim tab because it would be useless on your set up. The engine when you bought the boat was set up for top speed. The Top of the prop is running out of the water at speed. To cure the torqe problem you would need to go to a hydralic no feed back steering system. Or lower the motor as you did. But in that case you need to reprop because you were probably using a cupped prop with a little more pitch which is desighned to run partialy out of the water. When you lower the unit back down into the water you will loose about 5 mph top speed or more on your type of boat. Top speed on your rig should be about 70 mph with the original engine setting.... :D

Your right about the 70mph on that rig I finally opened mine up to full throttle yesterday and maintained a steady 70.4mph with gps. It's a quick boat with that engine. I'd love to see what it would do with a 175hp on it as is its max rating. Anyone have an 882 with a 175hp on it?
