Lenny,i have been there too!!! Take my advice SCREW THEM!!!!! there are too many boats on the market to have to deal with a total creep.I have learned the hard way that if I dont feel comfortable dealing with someone---I DONT If he wants to deal with someone who is offering him more money then let him,the other buyer will react the same way to a 5 year difference. If he contacts you again, then you either tell him you are no longer interested or you DEAL ON YOUR TERMS NOW!! Remember ,you dont need him,he needs you. There will be many boats for sale at the end of this year as at the end of every year.I would not give a dime to anyone that I dont trust and this guy sounds like a real creep!Remember this, never buy with emotion, thats what he is counting on.Buy with your head and every information source available to you--it is your hard earned money!! He called me back this morning but was telling me that he was getting 15k check for the boat from another buyer but did not want to take a check. Yesterday night when his wife contacted me she told me that the buyer rejected a deal based on the transportation problem. Now I do not trust this guy.
I was offering him 13.5k cash at first but now I feel it's too much an it should be arount 12.5k. The seller rejects any kind of negotiation and wants me to either pay 13.5 or forget it.

At the same time I feel that $13.5 for a 31' Wellcraft is a good deal even for a 1980.

I don't know... I guess emotions is a factor that I need to eliminate from boat shopping.

The way I look at it is if I take marine surveror he will not tell me anything more then I can spot myself and I will be regretting my $500-600 spent on the survey. In addition onland survey will call for hauling charge $160 - 180 on a 31 footer.

He is full of crap Lenny!!If he was getting a check for 15k he would deposit it and call the buyer when it clears and give him the keys at that point. He wants cash because he is probably hiding something else and since you are willing to not have it surveyed or hauled he would rather sell to you because you wont find it until he has your cash.If you are really sure youwant it (and I would really recommend against it),offer him the 13.5 and he pays the haul so you can check out what you cant see.If he balks at that tell him to CHOKE ON IT!!because he is hiding something. charlie

Lenny To be Honest with you I'm the son of a used car dealer........let me tell you this guy is having a silent auction. He took your first deal and still continued to try and sell the boat for highest bid, But he blew that deal and now he is back to you... in our family business which has a very good repution...we would not respond to this guys stories ....I would low ball the CR@P out of boat and put a final Bid of 10k if you really want the boat and let him sit... if he contacts you then fine if not just keep on looking.

Northern, Charlie:
You are 100% correct "silent auction" it was. Higher bid backed out. He is back to me now. I like that boat but will not let him have it all his way. He claims boat has 1999 engines in it. I don't buy that now. I will try to get engines' serial numbers first.
I feel it won't go smooth from this point on. I am a good negotiator and look for an openning to lower price on almost anything I buy. But now I will take every word this guy says for pure lie.
He is not a dealer. He owns a marine repair shop. ;)

My wife liked the boat more then I did to begin with. Now she is talking me out of it saying "You should not deal with a****s like that.

Things have gotten too complicated now.
I would under no circumstances spend money on the survey without the notarized contract with this seller that he is agreeing to sell this boat for a stated amount and in case of defaulting on the transaction will be held liable for the cost of survey and all associated expenses.

I would like to upgrade to a larger rig but would most likely go for a 24 footer. My wife doesn't swim and wants a comfortable cruiser. As for me 24' Grady White fishing boat would do just fine. ;)
I just don't feel like taking my Galaxy offshore fishing. So, Galaxy has to go.
I want to try to get it lower and the boat is nice for the money but it will leave "bad taste" for a long time regardless of which way it goes.

Thanks a lot guys for your support.
This forum is the best resource of information.

Safe boating to all ;)
Lenny

I agree with all the others. He's playing you. If you really can't let go of it emotionally, then offer him a low price and make it clear you're walking away if he says no.

If it ends up as a "NO SALE", then 'ya just gotta believe that it wasn't meant to be. You've done all you can do. Don't let him take advantage of you!

Hey Lenny this guys a bottom feeder.. I had a similiar sitution a couple of years ago with a 33ft travel trailer I bought, I made deal put down money with balance C.O.D , day of delivery guy call wants another Grand.... I give him 24hrs to deliver and stick to deal...needless to say I went the next day picked up my check and walked, by the time I got home, guys calling and decided that the original deal was fine...
moral of the story if you really want this boat then "make no compromises" stick to your guns or buy another boat... and always follow your gut instinct.
