I am getting a Smartcraft Alarm INJECTOR FAULT.

Engine normally revs flat out at 5400 rpm, now only get 4800 rpm.

Have disconnected injectors one at a time and find that number 6 does not have any effect when disconnected, all others cause engine to run rougher.

I have checked the coils of the fuel injectors and direct injectors and these are OK. I have checked wires from direct injetors and fuel injectors to ECM and all show continuity.

Grateful for any advice anyone can give.

There should be a fault buffer that gives you info on what the engine was doing at the time of the fault. It may only be happening at certain times, or conditions.
See your dealer, the problem may be covered under warranty. I think for 2002 the injector drivers were in the ECM555.
There have been some direct injector failures. your dealer can help identify those that need replaced.

Just a note. If the #6 direct injector has failed. it may show up as fuel in the "air" side.

Thanks for your help. You are right, the drivers are in the ECM. My problem is that I am on a little Caribbean Island without a dealer which is making life difficult. Can you suggest any further tests I might make to ascertain what is happening.

Mercury is not going to help you on this one.
Do you have a Mercury DDT? If not, they are available... check e-bay... look also for a OTC 4000 "enhanced" they are basically the same tool.

You'll need a cartridge. I have stuff going to Anguilla from time to time. You'll have to send me an email. You also need a fuel pressure gauge.

Why do'nt we just swap an injector from one cylinder to an other and see if the problem follows the injector?

What you suggest would be a good test if we were looking for a mechanical problem with the injector.

The injector coil tests OK. We are trying to determine the cause of the injector misfiring.

I am watching ebay for a ddt. I think it will be worthwhile to purchase one if I can get it for a reasonable price, then if you are willing you could talk me through the testing phase on the phone.
