New guy here with a detailed question.

2004 Optimax 225 DFI Mech Shift & Throttle, 201 hrs.

For the past 6 running hours, this engine has had intermittent SmartCraft check engine warnings.

Took the engine in to a certified Mercury mechanic, and his computer indicated a bad #2 cylinder air injector. With the motor idling smoothly at 575 RPM, he killed the #2 cylinder, and there was no change. When he killed other cylinders, RPM dropped immediately. Same at 1500 RPM. Pulled the plug, and it was wet and oily, pulled the injector and held it in my hand while running computer diagnostic. It was definitely intermittent.

Here's my question. If the #2 cylinder wasn't firing, how come the engine idled smoothly and seemed to have good power and no missing at higher RPM? At WOT I'm getting 5500 RPM and predicted boat speed, and I can't imagine that would happen if the cylinder wasn't firing. I'm going to replace the #2 air injector, but it's an expensive part and I'd like some knowledgeable insight on the subject before I lay out the bucks.

P.S. The part number is 883078A05. Anyone know where I can get one cheap?
