Re: Optimax tech up dates
I called them before I got this boat with the numbers. They didn't tell me anything. With 55 hours, the port motor start giving me trouble.I did have them surveyed. At the time, the port motor had 51.1 hours, the starboard had 52.1 hours. Both had about the same on running range on the rpm's with only .6 of an hour at WOT.No over heating hits, with a few oil alarms. The spark plugs were carbon up bad.Was told to run some ring free a few times then change out the plugs.Other then that, the tech stated he would of gave these motors a clean bill of health. He was my pick for the survey job.I had ran the boat about 1 hour in fresh water, then used it to go offshore.Seas were 3'-5' and 4'-6'.That is when I started having problems with the port motor.
Problem I am having is that the hot light would blink on and off,not all the time with no horn alarm coming in.Started lossing power till I would shut down the motor to idle for a few mins and then it would run back up to rpm's(3800) that I was cruising at.Once back in colder water(Mississippi River),seas calm.I had ran about 16 miles and had the horn beep 4 times(which should be an oil alarm) and no light alarm in at the time.Of course I shut it down again to check. No more alarms came in.Once I was about a mile from the landing,I had brought both motors to WOT.The port would only make 4450 rpm's.Ran it like that for about 1 min and then shut it down.
Things I know about these motors from reading a shop manual are,if the motor runs hot,the advancement will drop back.It doesn't say how much(per shop manual).Water discharge out the tell tale is water coming from the discharge for the air compressor discharge, which was very good.
Things that I will do are, change out the water pump impeller, add a water pressure gauge, change out the on motor fuel filter and change out the spark plugs. On the last, does anyone know the right NGK plug numbers and gap? Thanks.
