I have a 2003 Mercury 225 Optimax that has been using DFI / Synthtic oil since it was new. Have never had one single problem with the engine - used in saltwater exclusivvely and has been incredibly dependable.
I was told today that it is OK to now use Mercury Premium Plus oil instead of Synthetic as it will not harm my engine or its performance. I am considering it since the new sythetic pirce is creeping above $35 per gallon now. The guy that told me this said that Optimax Synthetic oil is actually best for the engine when you are trolling offshore for long periods of time and the Prem Plus is actually better for overall use. Sounds sensible to me, but just a little cautious to change if this is not actually the case.
Does anyone out there really know about this or have personally changed and had positive results? Thank you.
