Thanks Dan. I looked at the Ray Marine and it does look like a nice unit. I found it for about $60 less than the Garmin 250C. Might be another option for me to consider if I go with color. Two things that concern me about that unit: 50/200 combo transducer (I really only need a 200) and a 3.5" screen compaired to the 4.5" screen on the Garmin.

Raymarine ds400x - $285 shipped

Garmin 250C - $345.90 shipped (after $50 rebate)

Garmin 250 (B&W) - $192.94 shipped (after $25 rebate)

Take a look at the 500x, you won't look back. I just put in a 600 and it's an awsome color machine, visible in all lighting conditions.

Re: Ordered my GPS...now for a FF

Okay, my search is over. I decided to go with the B&W Garmin. I also ordered the cable to connect my Garmin GPS to the FF so I can get my GPS information on the screen. I think this is going to be the best solution for me, and all for less than the Combo Unit.

Total after rebates: $487 + $18 cord = $505

Savings of over $100 for the Combo unit I was going to get.

Thank you ALL for your help! I appreciate the expertise you shared!!

I think that you made a great decision. You'll be happy with the unit.

You are right, the small Ray unit has a small screen, but it fit my budget and the dual frequency is necessary in saltwater when I occasionally go beyond 200' depths.

Enjoy!

Thanks Dan, I think so too. I am getting the GPS today, and I had plans to go out tonight, so I am looking forward to putting it to use already! The FF should be here by Friday, so I am going to install it this weekend and I'll try to get out to use it soon...let you know how it goes.

Thanks again everyone!

GPS is in! I have uploaded my area lakes and maps...it's AWESOME! Can't wait to get on the lake tonight! Hope to find a few good fishing spots and mark them on the GPS.

Super sweet. I think my gps/ff is out for a while. As a "surprise" my wife got me Smart Tabs and an Icom m302 for fathers day. The smart tabs will be a major improvement in handling and planing so they were a must have. In addition, we boat on the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac so the vhf was also a must have.
Enjoy your gps/ff, it sounds like a great combination. Let us know more as you get a chance to play with/use it.
George

Hey George! (That's my middle name and my dads name! :D )

I will keep you informed of how its going. So far GPS is great. Haven't had a chance to go on the big lake yet, the one with the fishing hotspots, but I did go out on a smaller one last night. GPS worked great. Found my speedometer in the boat is pretty accurate! :)

FF is supposed to be here today or tomorrow...will try to install this weekend...but may be the 4th before I can take it out and try it. Pretty busy with a theatrical production of "Bye Bye Birdie" - I'm the technical director and sets have got to get done before the 4th.
