If you havn't already seen it, turn on the TV and take a look at that charter boat that capsized and killed at least nine people. I gotta say that it dosn't look big enough to have been carring 19 people. I understand it was a 32' and went out in 15' surf to fish. Maybe it dosn't have anything close enough to give the right scale for it's size, but I don't believe I'd have gone out on it.

Boat Capsizes <br /><br />You are right - doesn't look big enough for 19 people in 15 foot swells, and obviously wasn't! Shame "professionals" cannot use better judgement! Click on the "Slideshow" to get some perspective on the boat.

The sea is always the winner in the end. The game is played according to her rules and on her terms and only when she's in the mood. I think being experienced is knowing your limitations, and having the guts to tell 19 people we are not going out today. First rule of leadership..Its all your fault! What a waste.

It was a standard scenario from what I read, big waves at the mouth of a jetty. He was trying to avoid a big wave and got caught sideways to the wave.

apparently wearing a PFD is like seat belts, uncomfortable, restricting, etc, what a tragic arguement for always wearing a PFD. We all do, right?

19 souls on board 10 wearing pfd 9 not... 10 survivors 9 dead, do you see the pattern.<br /><br />Any Questions!!!

That accident was just up the coast from where I normally go crabbing. Sad indeed.<br /><br />The finger-pointing has begun from the Captain all the way to the Army Corp. for not dredging the channel.<br /><br />But I have to agree in the end: YOU the captain are solely responsible for the ship and crew.<br /><br />My boat isn't that big, and I'm a bit of wimp anyways when it comes to the high surf and swells. I don't know what in God's name he was doing out there.<br /><br />The farther you go North on the Oregon coast, the worse it gets in the big pond. I've never boated there, and I don't imagine I ever will.<br /><br />In any event, lets all give our condolences to the families of the ones that didn't make it back to 'feet dry'<br /><br />H.
