Out drive swap

Will the outdrive from my 305 mercruiser work on a straight 6 mercruiser. I know my question has alot of holes and not much info. The 305 I own and can get more info on if needed the other I do not own

you will need to change the inputshaft and the gearing

It might depending on the years.
If you provide the serial numbers of the drives or approximate years will help.

You will have to go down in pitch for the prop as the ratios will not be the same.

What size of boat?

Both are 17' possible straight 6 boat is complete but outdrive is in need of repair, so would have shafts from both boats

Where are the serial numbers located on the drives?

Could be under the aproximately 1"x3" decal on the port side of the drive.
Or on the motor.
