Re: Outboard Boat Motor ---- Hand control or steering wheel??

I've always like a smaller tiller boat on lakes for fishing. Especially with oars as a backup, I could get ANYWHERE on the lake to fish. Here in TN on the rivers, I think I would like the same rig (don't fish much anymore). Bigger water or bigger boats and I think my answer would change.

Though, you see video of Zodiacs will tiller steering used in all kinds of crazy environments.

I use a tiller 4 stroke 50 on my "small" lake boat a 17' and wheel on my Lk Michigan boat a 21'. Different strokes for different kinds of fishing. If I could have only one boat for fishing it would be a tiller for sure, more room in the boat, and better control for back trolling for walleyes. IMHO

I'm a steering wheel guy myself. It just feels as though you have more control of the boat.

A Wheel has some play and a time delay. A Tiller has no play and the control is full and instant.

Thanks for the help fellers! I decided to go with a tiller steer boat. I like the idea of more room & will be fishing smaller bodies of water. Found a nice older 16' Alumacraft with a 40hp Honda 4-stroke.
