Outboard Fuel Tanks

I'm wondering if there is a difference between plastic and metal fuel tanks for an outboard? (aside from the cost). I have a few plastic ones and I'm noticing they are collapsing (not completely) while operating my engine. Would this contribute to my Evinrude stalling at low idle every now and then? Should I invest in an OMC metal tank?<br /><br />Thanks for your help,<br />pfistey1

you should open the air vent on your fuel cap

Sounds like the air vent valve isn't working or not open. Yes it will cause stalling and if completely shut off the engine might not run at all.

I would much prefer plastic tanks...they're lighter, cheaper, and don't rust.

Ditto ZmOz.<br /><br />Plastic tanks don't scar the deck, don't leave rust stains, don't rust and don't leave great bruises on your shins when being carried.

Another vote for the plastic tanks for all the reasons already listed. JB is right on about the shins, I think that is the worst part. Why in the world is there a bone in front with so little padding?<br /><br />livebait
