Hi Guys - I have purchased a 1991 suzuki 30HP. It has an electric start and a manual choke that you pull on the engine.

I have used the boat about 10 times in pat 3 months and the last 2 times it has been very difficult to start. The engine just keeps turning over but it won't fire. Yesterday it took about 30+ attempts to get it going. Once its going it runs well and will start very withy half a turn of the key.

I popped the pluggs out and they look oily and where wet. So I though prehaps I should change the plugs? Or maybe check for spark? I am new to this boating game so how do I check for spark? Or could it be a problem with fuel lines and carbie? Where is the best place to start looking?

Cheers

Is the butterfly on the carb closing when you pull the choke?are you pumping the ball up enough? Did you try taking the fuel line off the motor then put somthing in end and prime ball to see if air bound.Next time you try it and it dosnt start have a bottle of gas and oil mix in a spray bottle spray some into carb. throut and see if it starts if so then you know its fuel. and lastly do you have a repair manual if not get one it will become your best friend.

welcome to iboats :) ... it seems to me that you are flooding the motor ... that is why you are having these issues with it ..... here is the easy starting procedure ... pump the fuel line ball till nice and firm ..... pull the chose and turn over .... the moment you hear a slight sound of it wanting to start push the choke back in and turn it over again until it starts ........
