About one month ago I purchased my first boat. A small 14 v-hull with a 1969 18hp Evinrude fastwin. It ran great for a while. Then I bought a 14ft fiberglass boat, much heavier than the aluminum boat. It ran good and then just stalled. After about an hour an a half it finally started back up. sometimes when starting it will run then just die and take a while to get her going. Then she is normally fine. The person I bought it from had the carb completely rebuilt, new spark plugs, fuel pump, and some other minor work. I am just trying to troubleshoot what it could be. And another thing before she stalled she was only giving me like half power, and this bothered me. I am new to this and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

When it stalls check for spark.Coils are the weak link on these motors.
If they haven't been replaced they will be bad and you may be running on 1 cylinder and when it quits you have nothing.Coils are under the flywheel.

Ok I will def check that out. But when I was WOT I was really cruising. So I think both cylinders were working. What is the best way to check for sparks. I read you can do this just by pulling the spark plug covers off and giving it a pull. Is this right?
