Outboard kicked about when running

When i was running my 33hp Johnson in a barrel , it ran fine then kicked about of a second then ran fine or a while then had another little kick !! Is this why they are called kickers ? and is this ok ?

No, that's what they're called when they are running lean at idle....

YEp, try turning the idle mixture screw 1/8 turn at a time counterclockwise until the motor smooths out and looses the "KICK"
