Hello. I looking to buy a Princecraft 192 deck boat. It weighs approx. #2300. The standard motor is a Mercury 90 hp. A 150hp is a $4000 up charge. This boat will be used on small lakes for fishing and general pleasure boating with pre-teens.(and a dog) .Nobody knows how to water ski or anything but I think they will enjoy tubing and trying to wake board. Would a 90 hp. be sufficient to pull some one out of the water? I know bigger is better and the new 150 4s is nice but $4000 is a lot. I can't seem to find a way of comparing these things. Thank you

Re: outboard power

The common rule of thumb is to use a motor that's at least 75% of max HP. 75% of 150 is 112, so a 115 would probably be good. PC charges $953 to upgrade from the base 90 to 115 hp. A lot less than $4K+.

I found that by using their "build a boat".

They may not ski yet, but you may want to plan for that eventuality. IMHO 90 hp is a bit light for a 2300 lb deck boat anyway and certain for water sports

Thanks. The 115 would be a better choice. The 150 is their "new" 150 4s. It's a large displacement motor. But I didn't notice the price difference between the three. I just didn't want to be running the 90hp at WOT all the time to get the power.

Did you see the added price for a Verado 150? Over $8000.

Re: outboard power

You should be able to ski and tow a tube with a 90 on that - but it will be underpowered, so it'll be harder for the skiier, and it'll take longer to get up on plane, particularly if the boat is loaded. You'll be much happier with at least a 115. Locally, that boat would be $36k MSRP, and on that amount, $4k isn't a whole lot more to pay....If it were me, I'd buy the 150. I note, though, that the 115hp is only $966 more, according to the Princecraft website - if $$$ is a real issue, then I would at least upgrade to that.

I agree, minimum of a 115. I would even look at a 125. You wont be happy with a 90.........

Re: outboard power

Thanks everybody. I'm looking at this boat because it combines the up right fishing seats with the seating layout of a pontoon boat. This would be perfect for the family I have. Also it would be easier to tow because of the light weight alum.construction. I want the 150 because it's a new design. It weighs only 450ish pounds. almost that of a two stroke. And it's a large displacement motor. It's said to have the hole shot of a 2s. Also a large motor would work less meaning longer life. I saw the price and went geeesh!!!! But I'm looking at a life time of family memories so I might as well get what I want. Thanks again.

Ha ha! Looks to me like a wise decision has been made! Good boating, my friend. You will love that 150.
