So it was time for me to get around to removing my 70hp 4-stroke project motor to make way for my 2-stroke rebuild. I had put this 4S on the back of my boat to do some diagnoses. It needs a new leg, new high-pressure fuel pump and a new powerhead gasket set.

I decided to leave this one for now and concentrate on my other 70HP (95 Evinrude ELEOR) which is being rebuilt from the ground up.

And here are some pics of me pulling the 4S this afternoon. I borrowed a tractor from a neighbour because that sucker weighs 350lbs.

How else does one remove a reasonably big outboard by himself?

"Big Orange" ('97 Kubota B2150) has removed and installed about 5 big outboards.

Yep, that Kubota is a back-saver for sure. One of the most useful pieces of equipment around. I use it move boats around on my property, lifting trailors, motors and what have you.

Much easier to put some diesel in the tank of that tractor than to recruit 3 friends to manhandle a 350lb motor. 3 friends = more cost in beer than the Kubota needs in fuel!

I've love to have a little Kubota like that! I'd need a loader... a backhoe... an auger... a blade... a bush hawg and.. and.. and.... you get the idea!

I use an automotive type engine hoist. As long as you have a suitable surface for one to roll on, they work great. They're also a heck of a lot cheaper than "Big Orange!"

Now, if I could only figure out a way to put a "bush hog" on an engine hoist ... ;)
